The Client: Slachtofferhulp Nederland

The Insight:
Victims are often hit twice. First, by what happened to them. Then, by reactions from those around them. Research shows that 1 in 5 victims experiences forms of victim blaming; subtle or explicit remarks that place (part of) the blame on the victim.
The Idea: With our previous campaign, we encouraged victims to call Slachtofferhulp Nederland. This time it was about the opposite: listening to the victims. Because sometimes listening to a victim can do so much more for them then an immediate response.
The Creation: We created an activation at the biggest train station of the Netherlands: Utrecht Central station. We made an installation of a great white wall with characteristic vintage orange and purple telephones. Passersby heard the phone ring, and curious people picked up the phone, those people could listen to real stories from victims, including the comments they heard afterward. By literally letting people hear the words, the impact was evident without becoming instructive.
